Rainer Baumann (born July 29, 1949 in Villingen-Schwenningen ; † November 14, 2007 in Hamburg ) was a German guitarist , composer and lyricist .

General

Since the 1960s Baumann worked in various bands . In 1971 he became a member of Frumpy and was known nationally and internationally. In 1970 the daily newspaper Die Welt compared the then 21-year-old with Eric Clapton . In 1972 Baumann was voted best guitarist of the year in the music magazine "Musik Express"; numerous other polls confirmed this choice.

From 1973 he studied music at the Hamburg Conservatory , from 1974 he taught for several years at the University of Music in Hamburg. He wrote numerous guitar textbooks and was a sought-after private teacher.

After Frumpy broke up, he founded the Rainer Baumann Band , with which he toured until his stage farewell in the late 1990s. In 1995 he celebrated his 25th anniversary on stage, with Inga Rumpf and Jack Bruce , among others . In addition, he was u. a. heard in productions by champion Jack Dupree , Achim Reichel , Jutta Weinhold and Randy Pie . In 1982 Rainer Baumann recorded an homage LP with Jimmy Reed classics, which he interpreted in his own style. On December 7, 2007 it was announced that Rainer Baumann had died in mid-November.
