Rainer Küster (born September 4, 1942 in Goldbeck ) is a German writer and linguist .

Life

After graduating from high school Ernestinum in Rinteln , Küster completed two years of military service and then studied German , English and philosophy at the universities in Hamburg and Bochum . At the Ruhr University he did his doctorate on a topic on military metaphors in newspaper texts under the Germanist Siegfried Grosse . From 1976 to 1983 he was seconded to the German Institute of the Ruhr University as a senior teacher in the university service. In addition to teaching at the grammar school, he then taught for more than twenty years as a lecturer in German linguistics at the Ruhr University. Until his retirement in 2007, Rainer Küster was director of studies at the Theodor-Körner-Schule in Bochum. He represented German , English and philosophy at the grammar school . Rainer Küster is married, has two sons and has lived in Bochum since the 1960s.

In his scientific work, Rainer Küster focuses on the areas of metaphorology , language didactics  and the language of sports and football . He has contributed to textbooks for German and philosophy classes. Since 1998 he has published the "Bochumer Wortschätze" (with Josef Fellsches), which have now appeared in eight continuously supplemented and expanded editions. In 2006 and 2013, two books about "Bochumer houses" were published, in which Küster connects stories about houses that have been part of Bochum's cityscape for decades or even centuries and the people who live or work in them. He has also written four detective novels from the Ruhr area (three of them together with Rüdiger Schneider).  Rainer Küster cultivated a close and always inspiring friendship with the two Bochum authors Wolfgang Welt  and Michael Starcke , who died in 2016 . As a "suffering fan" who has been attending VfL Bochum games for five decades , Küster has written several short stories about his club.
