Rainer Zille

Rainer Zille (born July 31, 1945 in Merseburg , † October 15, 2005 in Saaldorf ) was a German painter.

Life

Rainer Zille completed an apprenticeship as a distiller and worked as a forest worker. From 1967 to 1972 he studied painting at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts with Gerhard Kettner , Herbert Kunze and Franz Tippel . Since 1972 he has been working as a freelancer in Dresden . Together with his painter friends Helge Leiberg , Joachim Böttcher , Stefan Plenkers , Veit Hofmann and others, he played a key role in shaping the image of Dresden art in the 1970s.

Important stations were the pleinairs in Mecklenburg and on the Baltic coast as well as study trips to Poland, Bulgaria and the USSR. In 1990 he had the opportunity to spend a quarter of a year in Columbus (Ohio) , Dresden's twin city. This time, which he spent together with Plenkers and Hofmann, had a strong influence on his further work.

In 2003 he received the Bautzen Art Prize. In 2004 he moved to Saaldorf, where he died in October 2005.

His works can be seen in the permanent exhibitions of the Dresden City Gallery and the Neubrandenburg Art Collection .
