Raise Hell is a Swedish thrash / death metal band from Stockholm .

Band history

In 1995 Jonas Nilsson ( guitar ), Niklas Sjöström ( bass ) and Torstein Wickberg (guitar) founded a band that operated under the names Frost, Vinternaat and Frozen in Time. After several audition dates, they found a suitable drummer in Dennis Ekdahl . They then renamed the group In Cold Blood and recorded a demo called Nailed , which landed them a deal with Nuclear Blast . They initially sold the demo under the old name, later with a sticker on which the current band name was recorded.

The band renamed themselves in the run-up to the recording of their debut album in Raise Hell , as an American hardcore band had already cast In Cold Blood. In 1998 Holy Target was released . At the time of publication, no member of the band was older than 18 years. Several appearances in the opening act for Dismember , Night in Gales and Agathodaimon and at the Wacken Open Air 1998 followed.

In 1999 the recording of Not Dead Yet began . Anders Fridén from In Flames produced the album at Studio Fredman. It was released in 2000. Subsequently, Raise Hell was allowed to take over the support for the reunited Destruction . This summer they played again at the Wacken Open Air. 2001 the DVD / CD Nuclear Blast Festivals 2000 appears on the Raise Hell together with Destruction, Hypocrisy , Kataklysm and Crematory .

In 2002 Wicked Is My Game was released . Shortly after the release, Nilsson decided to concentrate on playing the guitar, so that with Jimmy Fjällendahl a new singer was added to the band. Nuclear Blast separated from the band by mutual consent after Wicked Is My Game . With Black Lodge , a new record company was quickly found, but now Thorstein Wickberg rose for personal reasons. The band continued in a four-man line-up. Except for a limited 7 '' inch and a few gigs, the band was quiet.

City of the Damned , their fourth album, was finally released in 2006.

Nilsson and Ekdahl still played with Mortifer and Sins of Omission . The latter was also active as a drummer for Mystic Prophecy and Mörk Gryning . In 2013 Dennis Ekdahl left the band.

After a nine-year career break, Raise Hell's fifth album, Written in Blood , was released in August 2015 . The band's new drummer is former Destruction drummer Sven Vormann.

Music genre

In terms of style, Raise Hell is usually compared to the Melodic Death Metal by Dissection , but contains far more Thrash Metal elements than the aforementioned. Rock elements can be heard more and more on the newer albums .

Originally from the black metal scene, the band was seldom taken seriously because of their youthful age and the drinking and party lyrics. Their youth also gave them the nickname "Death Metal Hansons ", which they could only get rid of later.
