Raj Kamal Jha

Raj Kamal Jha (* 1966 in Bhagalpur , Bihar ) is an Indian newspaper editor and author .

Life

Jha grew up in Calcutta , West Bengal , and attended St. Joseph's College there . After finishing school, he attended the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT) west of Calcutta, where he graduated with honors in mechanical engineering . During his time as a student at IIT, he was the editor of the university newspaper Alankar for two years . In 1988, he received a scholarship and fee waiver for the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of Southern California . There he graduated in 1990 with a Master of Arts .

After returning to India in 1992, he worked for various newspapers in his home country. Until 1994 he worked in the newsroom at The Statesman in Calcutta. From 1994 to 1996 he worked in New Delhi for the daily newspaper India Today and since 1996 he has been the editor of The Indian Express , most recently as editor.

The Indian Express has received three awards for its journalistic qualities from the International Press Institute in Vienna since 2004 . Since 2012 she has been criticized within India for speaking out against the tough line of politicians like Anna Hazare or Arvind Kejriwal , who want to fight corruption rampant in India with the methods of a police state through the police, public prosecutor and the judiciary. The introduction of the Ombudsman (Lokpal) system is also rejected by Indian politicians and other journalists in the country.

Jha lives in Gurgaon , Haryana , southwest of New Delhi.
