Kelmenzi Rajon (Ukrainian Кельменецький район / Kelmenezkyj rajon ; Russian Кельменецкий район / Kelmenezki rajon , Romanian Raionul Chelmenţi ) is a Rajon (administrative district) in the West- Chernivtsi Oblast , Ukraine .
geography
The center of the district is the Kelmenzi urban-type settlement . The Rajon borders in the north with the Rajon Kamyanets-Podilskyj (in the Khmelnitsky Oblast ), in the east with the Rajon Sokyrjany , in the south with the Republic of Moldova , in the southwest over a short section with the Rajon Novoselytsja and in the west with the Rajon Chotyn .
history
The Rajon was established in 1960 during Soviet times in the Ukrainian SSR , almost 98 percent of the inhabitants stated their nationality as Ukrainian in 2001. The place Polywaniw Jar / Поливанів Яр also belonged to the Rajon, but was dissolved on December 16, 1987 and the district council Iwaniwzi was added.
