The shevchenkivskyi district (Ukrainian Шевченківський район / Schewtschenkiwski rayon ; Russian Шевченковский район / Shevchenkovsky rayon ) is one of eight administrative districts ( Rajone ) of the city Dnipro , the Oblastzentrums the oblast Dnipropetrowsk .
It is located in the southern part of the city on the right Dneprufer and with 148,654 inhabitants (2008) is the fourth most populous and with an area of about 31 km² the sixth largest administrative district of Dnipro.
From April 12, 1973 to November 26, 2015, the Rajon was called Babushkin Rajon , the name is derived from the Russian politician and revolutionary Ivan Vasilyevich Babushkin . On November 26, 2015, as part of the decommunization in Shevchenko Raion , it was renamed after the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko . The Rajon was established on April 12, 1973.
