Ralf Albert Franz (* 1969 in Straubing ) is a German church music director and composer .

Life

After studying church music in Regensburg , he completed postgraduate studies as a state-certified music teacher with the main subjects piano and organ . In addition, he studied musicology and teaching for secondary schools at the University of Regensburg . He worked both as a Catholic church musician and - after his conversion - as a Protestant cantor in Fürstenfeldbruck , Neuburg an der Donau and Ortenburg . Since 2003, Franz is deanery Kantor in Passau and taught at the local university singing and piano.

He began to compose while still at school. The main focus of his oeuvre are works for piano, organ and wind instruments for the liturgy and the concert. The style of his compositions is shaped by various influences: a classic-modern harmony is combined with a linear polyphony in the tradition of Johann Sebastian Bach and elements of jazz. In his homage to Johann Sebastian Bach, he transports Bach's two-part inventions into a modern tonal language rich in dissonance.
