Ralph Bollmann (born June 24, 1969 in Bad Dürkheim ) is a German journalist and publicist . He lives in Berlin .

Life

Bollmann studied history, politics and public law in Tübingen , Bologna and at the Humboldt University in Berlin. He wrote his master's thesis on the comparison of German and Italian social democracy with Heinrich August Winkler . After completing his studies, he attended the German School of Journalism in Munich .

Even during his studies, Bollmann wrote for newspapers, including the Reutlinger General-Anzeiger , the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the time and the daily newspaper ( taz ). From 1998 he worked in the Berlin editorial team at taz . In 2002 he was appointed acting head of the domestic department together with Patrik Schwarz , in 2003 regular and in 2005 sole head. In 2008 he moved to the parliamentary office of the taz , also as head of department. Bollmann has been the economic policy correspondent for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung in Berlin since 2011 .

Bollmann also writes on cultural-historical topics and published essays , for example in the magazines Merkur and IP Internationale Politik . In 2006 he published the book Praise of the Empire: The Fall of Rome and the Future of the West , in which he traces parallels between late ancient Rome and today's West as "Imperium Americanum". In 2010 he was journalist in residence at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne.

In 2011, Walküre was published in Detmold: A journey of discovery through the German provinces . In it, Bollmann condenses impressions of a multi-year trip to all 84 German opera houses in 81 cities that have their own ensemble. In the 2014/2015 season he was the author of a column in Semper , the magazine of the Semperoper Dresden.

At least since his book Die Deutsche: Angela Merkel and Wir , Bollmann is an expert on the Federal Chancellor in demand internationally .

In autumn 2017 Bollmann was invited to the jury of the " Non-Fiction Best List " from Deutschlandfunk Kultur , ZDF and the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT .
