Ralph Ghadban
Ralph Ghadban ( Arabic رالف غضبان, Born April 21, 1949 in Haouche Hala, Lebanon ) is a German author and publicist .
career
Ghadban studied philosophy in Beirut from 1966 to 1972 . After the Arab defeat in the Six Day War against Israel in 1967, he was involved in the founding of a group that can be assigned to the “ New Left ” and - in contrast to the Lebanese Communist Party , which Israel recognized - supported the struggle of the Palestinians. In 1972 Ghadban went to Europe to settle in West Berlin . There he studied Islamic studies and received a doctorate in political science .
In 1976 he co-founded Lebanonhilfe to support civil war refugees in Lebanon and Berlin. 1977 to 1992 he did social work with Arab Berliners , a. a. as head of the advice center for Arabs at the Diakonisches Werk in Berlin. Since then he has been active in migration research with a focus on Islam and has written several books and articles on the subject. In 2003/04 he was involved in an initiative group that led to the establishment of the Muslim Academy in Germany . In 2006 and 2008 he was a member of the advisory bodies of the first German Islam Conference . In 2008/09 he did research at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton , USA. In addition, he received teaching assignments at the Evangelical University of Berlin .
Ghadban is a founding member of the Muslim Forum Germany, which was founded in 2015 .
After a broadcast and an interview with Ralph Ghadban on Lebanese television about his book Arab Clans - The Underestimated Danger , half a year after its publication in Germany, Lebanese family clans in Germany, according to a report in the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung in Essen at the beginning of May 2019, “have a widespread hate campaign against the highly uncomfortable Berlin Islamic scholar and publicist Ralph Ghadban. ”“ Hate videos are even said to contain indirect death threats ”. According to the WAZ , "the Essen-based Family Union, an influential umbrella organization of more than two dozen large Lebanese-Kurdish families." Ghadban describes the hate reaction as a typical tribal behavior, which particularly affects the group of has shaped Lebanese family clans for centuries, no matter where their members are. They were currently using pack formation as one of their most effective instruments of intimidation for the first time in the digital world; modern networks strengthened archaic structures.
As a result of massive threats from the clan milieu, Ghadban is under permanent police protection.
