Ralph Klaus Stengler (born May 12, 1956 in Kirberg , Hessen ) is a German physicist , university professor and university president .

Life

After graduating from high school and doing basic military service, Ralph Stengler studied physics at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Bonn from 1977 to 1984 . In 1988 he was with a dissertation on the measurement of Landé factor of hydrogen molecular ion at Mainz University doctorate . He then worked in the industry in process management and material quality management.

Since 1991 he has been Professor of Metrology and Quality Management at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Plastics Technology of the University of Darmstadt . In November 2009, Stengler was elected President of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and was re-elected for a second six-year term in 2015. From summer 2014 to spring 2015, he was also acting chancellor of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

From 2016 to 2018, Stengler was chairman of the Hesse Universities of Applied Sciences (HAW Hessen) (until 2016: Conference of Hessian Technical College Presidia (KHF)).

Ralph Stengler has published over 78 fonts. He is a member of the German Society for Quality , the Association of German Engineers and the German Physical Society . He is involved as an auditor for the European Organization of Quality and as a representative on the advisory board for teaching at universities of the German Society for Quality. In 2012, he was awarded an honorary professorship by the State Technical University in Ulyanovsk . Since the beginning of January 2020, Stengler has been the spokesman for the University Alliance for Applied Sciences (HAWtech) for two years.

He is married and has three children.
