Ramón Piñeiro

Ramón Piñeiro Llagostera (born October 29, 1991 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish racing driver . He competed in Formula 2 in 2010 and 2011 .

Career

Piñeiro began his motorsport career in 1996 in karting , where he was active until 2007. In 2008, the Spaniard moved to the single-seater racing and entered the European Formula BMW for Fortec Motorsport on. With an eighth place as the best result, he finished 20th overall at the end of the season. In 2009 Piñeiro contested his second season in the European Formula BMW. First he started for FMS International and switched to Motaworld Racing after Coloni took over his team . Eighth place was again his best result. In the overall standings, he improved to 19th place with regular points.

After the end of the Formula BMW season, Piñeiro switched to Formula Palmer Audi and took part in the last six races of the season. The Spaniard had a serious accident on his first race weekend at Silverstone . He dueled Kazimieras Vasiliauskas on the Hangar Straight . His left front tire touched the rival's right rear wheel and his car took off. Piñeiro's car overturned and stopped in the run-off zone. He survived the accident without injuries. In the last race of the season, he achieved his first podium finish in third place. In 2010 the Spaniard stayed in the Formula Palmer Audi. He won four races and stood on the podium a total of eleven times. In the championship he was third. He also took part in two races of the European F3 Open . On the last race weekend of the 2010 season , Piñeiro made his Formula 2 debut . He scored a point straight away and finished 22nd in the drivers' championship. In 2011 , Piñeiro started in Formula 2. After he remained without a podium finish in the first half of the season, he only failed to get on the podium in the second half of the season in one race in which he was fourth. Piñeiro had three wins and finished the season in third place.
