Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. (* 25. September 1966 in Manila as Jose Marie Mortel Bautista ) is a Filipino actor , film producer , entrepreneur and politician of the Lakas-Kabalikat ng Mala Yang Pilipino-Christian Muslim Democrats ( Lakas-CMD ), which in nearly eighty films played and was a senator from 2004 to 2016 .

Life

School education and film career

Bong Revilla is the son of the equally successful actor Ramon Revilla senior , who was also a senator between 1992 and 2004 and is said to have 72 children with sixteen women, 38 of which are officially recognized and have his family name. Many of these children are also active in the film industry and politics, such as Ramon N. Bautista, who was mayor .

Revilla, the 1977 Elementary School Jesus Good Shepherd in Imus ended, began as a teenager his career in the film and had 1976 in Bergado, Terror of Cavite his debut as a film actor. He made only a few films before completing his secondary education at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles in 1982, before he then increasingly took on leading roles in numerous action films . He continued his acting career after the beginning of his political career and has played almost eighty films to date. At the beginning of the 1990s he also began working as a film producer and produced nine films between 1991 and 2000. He is also an entrepreneur and founded the RRJ Foundation Inc., of which he is President and Chairman. This group also includes the companies he heads RRJ Films Inc., RRJ Trading and Trucking Inc. and RRJ Peoples Organization Inc.

In the course of his acting career he won the FAMAS Award, the award of the Philippine film industry, for best actor in 1995 for Relax ka lang, sagot kita (1994). In addition, he was nominated seven more times for this FAMAS Award as best actor and one more time as best actor in a supporting role .

In 2009 he not only won the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award, but also the Festival Award for Best Actor as well as a nomination at the Star Awards for Movies for best action actor and a nomination for the FAMAS Award for his role in Ang Panday at the Metro Manila Film Festival .

He last stood in front of the camera in 2011 and again played the leading role of "Flavio" in Ang Panday 2 .

Political career

In July 1995, Bong Revilla began his career in film and his political career and was first elected lieutenant governor of the province of Cavite , before he was governor of this province between February 1998 and June 2001 . During this time he campaigned for environmental, nature and health projects as well as against crime such as illegal gambling. He has been honored by the Albany- based International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association for his work against drug-related crime and the fight against addiction syndromes. In 1997 he married the actress Lani Mercado .

After completing his term as governor, he was chairman of the videogram regulatory board between July 2002 and January 2004 .

In the May 2004 elections, Bong Revilla was first elected Senator and was a member of several Senate committees during his long term membership in the Senate. In April 2005 Cavite State University awarded him a Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) honoris causa , before he received an honorary doctorate in human sciences ( Doctor of Humanities honoris causa ) from Nueva Vizcaya State University in April 2006 .

In the elections in May 2010 he was re-elected for a further six-year term and achieved 19,513,521 votes (51.15 percent), the best result of the 61 candidates for the twelve Senate seats to be awarded. In the 15th  Congress from 2010 to 2013 he was Chairman of the Senate Committees on Public Services and Committee on Public Works .

Revilla, whose wife has represented the constituency Cavite II-Bacoor in the House of Representatives since 2010 , has been chairman of the Lakas Kampi CMD since 2011 .

Corruption allegations and imprisonment

In mid-2013, the so-called “pork barrel” fraud (officially the “Priority Development Assistance Fund scam”) came to light, in the course of which between 1996 and 2013 up to 10 billion pesos in public funds were systematically embezzled. Revilla is accused of being the main characters in this fraud case alongside Juan Ponce Enrile and Jose Pimentel Ejercito Jr. He is charged with embezzling over a billion pesos . Revilla has been jailed since June 20, 2014 on charges of looting and bribery. The investigation into the case is being carried out by the Sandiganbayan , a special court in the Philippines which specifically addresses the jurisdiction in corruption and bribery cases and which was founded in the 1973 constitution . The investigation continues. According to media reports, it takes the Sandiganbayan an average of 7 years to complete a case.
