Jose Pimentel Ejercito junior (born January 23, 1963 in Manila ), known in the Philippines as Jinggoy Estrada , is a Filipino actor and politician .

Life

Degree, mayor and actor

Jose Ejercito is the eldest son of former President Joseph Estrada and former Senator Luisa "Loi" Pimentel-Ejercito Estrada .

After attending primary and secondary school at Ateneo de Manila University , he studied economics at the University of the Philippines and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Economics). He then completed a postgraduate degree in law at Lyceum University , completing this with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.).

He began his political career while still a student and became Vice Mayor of San Juan in June 1988 at the age of 25 , whose mayor his father was between 1968 and 1986.

He was subsequently mayor of San Juan between June 1992 and June 2001 and, at the age of 29, was the youngest ever elected mayor of a Philippine city when he was first elected. During his three terms in office he campaigned for the economic, social, political and cultural development of the city. He sponsored programs to modernize the barangay offices with childcare in all barangays, to renovate the San Juan National High School and other public elementary schools, and to support the construction of recreational facilities for sports halls, basketball courts , playgrounds, and other public works Construction of drainage systems, community roads and construction of the four-story San Juan Medical Center and the San Juan Municipal High School . He was also Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the Congress for Labor and Employment (COCLE).

In addition to numerous other committee memberships, he was vice-chairman of the committees for games, amusement and sport, as well as for public information and mass media .

From June 2007 to 2013 he was President of the Senate pro tempore and thus representative of the Senate President in the event of his absence or illness.

During his membership in the Senate, he submitted 289 legislative initiatives and resolutions that dealt not only with labor law issues but also with local politics , the work of Congress and the promotion of youth welfare . The most important bills included the National Labor Relations Commission Bill , the Human Rights Victims Compensation Act and amendments to the National Internal Revenue Code .

Corruption allegations and imprisonment

In mid-2013, the so-called “pork barrel” fraud (officially the “Priority Development Assistance Fund scam”) came to light, in the course of which between 1996 and 2013 up to 10 billion pesos in public funds were systematically embezzled. Jose Pimentel Ejercito is charged with being one of the main characters in this fraud case , alongside Ramon Revilla Jr. and Juan Ponce Enrile . He himself is accused of receiving 183 million pesos in bribes and of being responsible for embezzling about 585 million pesos of public funds. An arrest warrant was issued against him on June 24, 2014 on charges of looting and bribery and he has been detained ever since.
