Rapalje (Eng. "Radau") is an Irish folk band from Groningen in the Netherlands .

The band mainly plays traditionals from Ireland , the UK and the Netherlands, but they also have some of their own pieces in their repertoire. They are known as a live band and wear kilts on stage . The band members are multi-instrumentalists and have developed their own instrument, the gitouki , a mixture of Irish bouzouki and guitar . Their performances are occasionally accompanied by dancers.

Gang thief designed its own tartan and is the member of the McTreashcaighn - Clans .

history

Dieb and Maceál already played together in a rock band . The two decided in 1997 to play "Celtic" folk music and founded the duo Ruk en Pluk , with whom they released a cassette called Celtic Folk Music . From this duo, the trio De Eikeltjes aldus Ronald formed with William, which also performed with street music abroad. She later renamed herself Klootjes Folk to eventually become Rapalje. Since 1997, five short CDs, two studio albums, an album made up of the first three short CDs and a live CD have been released by this line-up. Rapalje met David Myles at a festival for Scottish folk music in 2003/2004 and immediately accepted him as a live musician. He has been a permanent member of Rapalje since January 1st, 2009.
