description

The oldest town hall in Thuringia was built in 1441 as a half-timbered house over a massive cellar and changed in the 16th century. Until 1994 the two-story building was plastered . After excavation work, the half-timbered structure with remains of the polychrome compartment from the 16th century became visible again. The building originally had a gable roof . It was replaced in 1745 by a hipped roof with dormer windows from which a roof turret rises. The side facing the market and both sides of the gable have a continuous parapet made of St. Andrew's cross , the lower east side has an unadorned post construction . Centrally located on the west side of the portal with profiled jambs . At the time of construction, the compartment only had a structured plaster surface. The basement is spanned in the southern area with a barrel vault, the northern half has a groin vault on a central column, which was built in later. The northern basement access with profiled walls and segmental arching as well as the windows are from 1441. The ground floor originally had a three-aisled hall , which was changed in 1540 by installing a plank room at the south-west corner with a bay window on the market side . Two beams on one support each have been preserved from the hall . In 1910, with the installation of the stairwell, major changes were made to the original interior . The western bay window was also torn down. On the upper floor you can still see the remains of a second plank room from 1501, which originally served as a council room.
