Grünberg town hall
The town hall in Grünberg , a town in the district of Gießen in Hesse , was built in 1586/87. The town hall at Marktplatz 1 is a protected architectural monument .
history
The half-timbered house was built in 1586/87 as a residence for the bailiff Hermann Rüdiger von Hersfeld. In 1593 it was sold to the city of Grünberg, which set up its town hall in it. In 1822 the renaissance building was plastered and the two-story corner bay was removed. In 1966 the framework was exposed again. In 1980 the half-timbered structure was extensively restored and the bay window was re-installed.
architecture
The high gable building stands on a massive basement. The corner bay window on the corner of the market square on Rabegasse is particularly noticeable. The stone portal in the style of the Renaissance is framed by pilasters and closed by a triangular gable. Next to it is the builder's coat of arms with a Latin inscription.
