The town hall in Neuburg an der Donau , a major district town and seat of the district administration of the Upper Bavarian district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen , was built between 1603 and 1609. The town hall on Karlsplatz is a protected architectural monument .

History and description

The renaissance building was built by the Graubünden master builder Gilg Vältin according to plans by the imperial court painter Joseph Heintz the Elder. Ä. and built by the court architect Alexander Pasqualini . The upper floor was renewed by Johann Serro from 1640 to 1642 . The three-storey hipped roof building with a double flight of stairs has a portal with figure niches on the side. The figures symbolize Ceres and Justitia . The city coat of arms is located in the blasted gable above the portal.

After the town hall was damaged by fire at the end of the war in 1945, it was rebuilt in 1948/49. Today the city art gallery is located on the ground floor.
