Weißensee Town Hall (Thuringia)
The town hall of Weißensee is located on the town's market square in the Sömmerda district of Thuringia .
description
The multi-part building complex is dominated on the market side by a three- storey building with an eaves and a tower on the side . The core of this building, originally a free-standing square structure, was built around 1200 as the seat of the landgrave's market master . Its north-facing facade and the extensions to the west and south are from different construction phases from the late Romanesque to the late Renaissance . The exterior of the Romanesque building has undergone major changes. The ground floor has been preserved. After a fire in 1474, a new roof structure was put on. In 1547 the front of the market was changed. A pointed arch portal was added on the ground floor. On the east side, an originally two-storey town house built around 1570 was connected to the town hall and later an additional storey was added . The tower was built in 1589/90. The ground floor is spanned with a groin vault on strong consoles .
