Weida Town Hall

The Weida Town Hall is located on the Neumarkt von Weida , a town in the Thuringian district of Greiz .

description

The stately building complex in the architectural style of the High Renaissance was built in 1587–89 using older components. On the three-storey facade there is a risalit in the center of the market and a stair tower to the side with a substructure of two storeys and a towering, octagonal tower at the base of which there is a covered walkway. The tower is covered with a curved hood , which is crowned with an open lantern . After a fire in 1633, the roof was restored without the original tall dormitories . A flood caused severe damage in 1661, and reconstruction begins in 1667. In the 19th century a short wing of the building was erected in the west. In 1928/29 the town hall was expanded to include the building wing in the north, while the exterior was adapted to the Renaissance building. In 1969 the exterior was renovated. The stair tower was repaired in 1991. On the ground floor there are portals from the time it was built. On the facade north of the stair tower at the height of the first floor is the no longer accessible portal to the former council scales. The groin vaults of the former Ratswaage and the neighboring rooms in the main wing were renewed or re-used in 1904. The balance beam of the old council scales is now housed in the vestibule . The hall and lounge are on the second floor .
