Raymond Gaillard (born September 20, 1904 in Poitiers , † April 13, 1973 ) was a French entrepreneur and racing driver .

Entrepreneur

Raymond Gaillard ran a Panhard vehicle dealership in Paris from the 1930s . After the end of the Second World War , he sold models from Société Callista, founded in 1949, in his car dealership Grand Garage Molière at 64 rue du Ranelagh in the 16th arrondissement . In 1956 Gaillard founded his own automobile production company, Automobiles Arista, at the same location . 196 vehicle bodies were built on Panhard chassis by 1963.

Career in motorsport

Between 1934 and 1953, Gaillard was also active as a racing driver, with long intervals between operations. In 1934 he made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . He contested this 24-hour race five times. Best placement was 16th overall in 1952 , together with Pierre Chancel on a Panhard X84 Sport . He achieved his greatest success with fifth place in a sports car race in Marrakech in 1953 and his last outing was at the 12-hour race in Casablanca in the same year , when the Lancia was broken after a defect.
