Raymond Gravel
Raymond Gravel (born November 4, 1952 in Saint-Damien-de-Brandon , Québec , † August 11, 2014 in Joliette , Québec) was a Canadian Roman Catholic priest and member of the Canadian lower house .
Life
Raymond grew up in Québec. At the age of 16, Gravel left home and moved to Montreal , where he was an escort and worked in bars for gays. At the age of 30, Gravel entered a Catholic seminary in Canada in 1982 and studied theology at the University of Montreal . After his training, Gravel was ordained a priest . He served as a priest at St. Joachim Church in La Plaine , Québec.
Gravel was put up on October 29, 2006 as a candidate for the Canadian Bloc Québécois party . When he was refused permission by the church leadership to run, Gravel applied for a leave of absence. Gravel won the parliamentary elections and moved into the House of Commons as a member of the Repentigny constituency on November 27, 2006. In the general election of 2008, he decided not to run again and was again active as a priest.
