Born Louis Pilade Pellegrini , the actor was of Italian descent. He had his first theater appearances in Nice. In 1945 he came to Paris and was successful in Marcel Pagnol's play Topaze . Pellegrin is best known in the cinema as Gino in André Cayattes We Are All Murderers (1952) and especially in the title role of Sacha Guitrys Napoleon (1955). International roles followed, such as Marco in Sidney Lumet's Arthur Miller film version Blick von der Brücke (1961). Often in roles of dubious characters such as the Baron de Lansignac in André Hunebelle's The Secrets of Paris (1962), Paul Ricci in Jean-Pierre Melville's The Second Breath (1966) or as Ferndand Morcerf in The Avenger from the Coffin (1968), too from Hunebelle. In Germany he played in 1974 under the direction of Alfred Vohrers in the Johannes Mario Simmel film The Answer Only the Wind knows Commissar Lacrosse. From the mid-1970s, Pellegrin reduced his film work drastically and devoted himself more to the management of his hotel on the Côte d'Azur.
On July 12, 1949, he married the actress Dora Doll (* 1922 in Berlin; † 2015), with whom he had a daughter (Danielle). This marriage ended in divorce in 1955. On October 8, 1955, he married the actress Gisèle Pascal (* 1923 or 1921; † 2007); the daughter Pascale Pellegrin (born September 12, 1962 - February 8, 2018), who also worked as an actress, sprang from this marriage .
Raymond Pellegrin died in Garons on October 14, 2007.
Well-known roles
His best-known later roles include Jo in Assault at Dawn (1975), Robert Pérez in Le Bar du téléphone (1980), the Claude Lelouch films Everybody Will Receive His Wages (1981) and Vive la vie! (1984) and Serge Mazra in Adolf Winkelmann's The Bodyguard (1989). After starring alongside Bud Spencer in They Called Him Flatfoot , he played in three clothes with Spencer as Jack Clementi in the late 80s . In 1993 he played in the television series Rocca the Commissioner Rocca.
