The honorable family (original title: L'onorato famiglia, uccidere è cosa nostra ) is an Italian crime film from 1973. Tonino Ricci directed the film, which was rated as average and which was first shown in German-speaking countries in May 1988 on a private broadcaster.

action

The two Mafia giants Antonio Marchesi and Peppino Scalise persist in the field of building speculation in Palermo; Scalise emerges victorious: he lets the rival kill. In the murder committed by the two gangsters Johnny De Salvo and Turi Nannisco, Marchesi's certain successor, Federici, was also killed some time ago. The case is investigating Commissioner La Manna, who is trying to get Federici's widow to testify against Scalise. After another murder, some Mafiosi are also charged, but acquitted. Not willing to admit defeat, La Manna comes into contact with a former employee Scalises who is willing to revenge and is ready to testify about a new identity. He too dies before he can keep his promise. Having escaped an assassination attempt by Johnny and Turi that resulted in their death, La Manna discovers conclusive documents in the Marchesis safe, with the help of which he can arrest Scalise. When Scalise is being transported in a police car, an unknown mafia killer shoots him. The honorable society remains intact.

criticism

The film, a “mixture of typical Mafia film and Poliziesco” according to genre connoisseur Karsten Thurau, was positively reviewed as in the lexicon of international films : “Film from the heyday of socially critical anti-Mafia film, which reflects the climate of extreme violence and the interdependence denounced by organized crime and apparently serious deals, which put the mafia in a position of all-encompassing control. ”Thurau praises oppressive scenes and surprising directorial ideas, but criticizes many superficial clichés. The Italian colleagues were more critical. For example, “places, people and events are presented in such a random way that the corresponding plaque at the end of the film that everything is just coincidental if there are similarities” is not necessary. The subtle structure of the plot and the western-like sequence neglect social aspects and overemphasize the fictionality, which simply cannot describe such a complex phenomenon as the Mafia, was the criticism of Il Messaggero

Remarks

The soundtrack was released as an LP with thirteen titles by Gemelli GG.ST. 10,022.
