A friend drew her attention to the record label ARK Music in autumn 2010 . Black did a couple of screen tests, Friday of which she liked the most. Although her mother doubted the quality of the text, she gave in to her daughter's will.
At the beginning of January 2011 a music video was shot about it. The production costs were partially covered by Black's parents to secure the rights to the song for their daughter. The finished video was posted by the label on the online network YouTube , where it caught the attention of comedian Daniel Tosh , who reported negative about the video on his blog Tosh.0 on March 11, 2011 . Within a few hours, the number of hits rose to over 100,000 and ARK Music received requests from TV stations for the song. Friday's popularity grew rapidly, with it being viewed nearly 167 million times by June 16, 2011. By the time it was finally removed on June 16, 2011, the video had received approximately 3.3 million negative ratings on YouTube and over 462,000 positive ratings. At this point in time, the video was number one in the world with the most negative reviews. Most of the reviews were negative, too, with Friday being described as the "worst song of all time", "bizarre" and "awkward".
The track was downloaded for a fee around 43,000 times via iTunes and other platforms in the first week, and the music magazine Billboard estimates Black's earnings from it at around 25,000 US dollars. In the chart week starting March 28, 2011, the song debuted at number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100 . In the meantime, the song has been offered as a ringtone, it was in the iTunes charts at number 13. In addition, some cover versions and many parodies of the piece were published on YouTube. The song was also covered in the series Glee (season 2, episode 20).
On March 25, Black hired a manager who, according to him, had been contacted by several songwriters and labels with ideas for further releases and albums. In an interview with the British daily The Sun , Black announced that he would record a new song entitled LOL , which would also be included in an album being prepared by the Flying Pig Productions studio . This album is supposed to contain songs similar to Friday in structure and content , which Black says should be "appropriate and clean".
On June 16, 2011, her music video was removed from YouTube on the grounds that “This video is no longer available due to Rebecca Black's copyright claim”. The reason are disputes with the Ark Music label, which only wanted to make the video available for a fee (for a price of 2.99 US dollars).
As a tribute to her song Friday Black was able to in the music video Last Friday Night (TGIF) by Katy Perry to play.
On July 18, 2011, a new song called My Moment and its video was released on a new channel on YouTube, which had already received over two million views within 24 hours. As with Friday , there was a real "appeal craze", which however subsided after a week. On August 30, 2011, she announced in another video on YouTube that her first album would be released soon. On September 16, 2011, Black re- uploaded their first Friday music video on YouTube.
On November 23, 2012, she released her song In Your Words as usual with video on YouTube. The style of music and the processing of the video can no longer be compared with Black's musical beginnings. On December 7, 2013, she released her song Saturday , which, like the previous songs, is available as a music video on YouTube and achieved 3.7 million views in the first 24 hours. Allegedly it should be a not seriously meant sequel to Friday .
In 2016 she released a single again after almost three years with The Great Divide . In 2017 she released her first EP called RE / BL in addition to the songs Foolish and Heart Full of Scars .
