history

Look into the crypt

At the end of the 13th century, the church was built with bricks in the format of a monastery as a hall church. In the 15th century, the choir with cross vault was added, which extended the nave in its entire width by 5.5 meters to the east. A brick with the year 1472 above the north portal can be interpreted as an indication of the time of construction. Later the arched portals were bricked up and larger windows were broken into. During the renovation in 1966, wall niches were uncovered that may have served as a location for relics or Vasa Sacra in the pre-Reformation period .

Below the choir, Erhardt von Ehrentreuter von Hofrieth, the builder of the neighboring Evenburg , had a crypt with two burial chambers set up in the 17th century. He had received feudal rights for Loga and Logabirum from Count Ulrich II , which included the right to the burial chambers in the church. Members of the von Wedel family and pastors were buried in seven coffins.

When the old free-standing tower was lost in 1839, it was replaced by a six-storey west tower. The builders HT and GD Hinrichs built the tower in 1842/43, which with its lighthouse-like shape is reminiscent of the bell tower of the Ditzum church . The octagonal pointed helmet has a forged ring with an arrow pointing upwards as a weather vane. In 2017 the community purchased a new bronze bell from the company Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock from Gescher. It bears the Bible verse from Lk 2.14  LUT as an inscription .

Furnishing

pulpit

The oldest piece of furniture in the church is the Romanesque baptismal font made from Bentheim sandstone . The usual ornaments and the pedestal with lion figures have been removed. The grave slab of Erhardt von Ehrentreuter is in front of the pulpit. In the 19th century the font was replaced by a smaller one and the old one was placed in front of the church. In the first half of the 20th century it served as a cooling basin in a Loga smithy until it was rediscovered after the Second World War and transferred to the church. The chandelier was donated in 1690. In 1778 the oak pulpit was made by Joachim Kasper Hessemeiers (Hessenius) with carving, grape pendants and a sound cover with rich carving in the shape of a crown. A communion plate was made by Rintzius de Grave in the 18th century.

In the 19th century a wooden barrel vault was put in, but it was removed again in the course of renovations in the 1960s. Today the original beam ceiling forms the end of the nave again.
