The Metropolitan Region Florianópolis , Portuguese Região Metropolitana de Florianópolis , is a metropolitan region in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina . It was established by law on January 6, 1998 and has its seat in the city of Florianópolis .
Demographics and Expansion
Until 2017, the metropolitan region lay within the mesoregion Florianópolis and comprised nine municipalities of the two microregions Florianópolis and Tabuleiro in the nucleus .
With an area of 2,383.1 km² it had a population of 1,014,105 inhabitants (July 2017 estimate), which corresponds to a population density of 425.5 per km².
