Regina Sterz (* 23. March 1985 in St. Johann in Tirol as Regina Mader ) is a former Austrian alpine skier . She was particularly successful in the Super-G and downhill . She belonged to the A-squad of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) and drove for SC Erpfendorf -Wald.

biography

After primary school in her home town of Erpfendorf and secondary school in St. Johann in Tirol , Mader graduated from the ski school in Stams . She competed in her first FIS races in November 2000, after joining the roster of the Austrian Ski Association in 2002, the first European Cup starts followed in February 2003. At the Junior World Championships , in which she participated from 2003 to 2005, her best result was eighth place in the 2005 descent . By January 2008 she reached five third places in the European Cup - each in the Super-G - and in 2006 and 2008 she was fifth in the Super-G discipline. She celebrated her first victory in the European Cup on January 27, 2009 at the giant slalom in Götschen-Bischofswiesen .

In the World Cup Regina Mader debuted in January 2007; Regular World Cup appearances followed from the 2008/2009 season . She achieved her first top 10 result on March 1, 2009 with ninth place in Bansko's Super-G . Further top 10 results initially remained the exception. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , she was 14th in the downhill. In the 2010/2011 season , Mader was among the top ten in several World Cup races for the first time. Her best result of the season was sixth place in the Super-G of Cortina d'Ampezzo on January 23, 2011. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , she only started in the downhill and finished 23rd. The 2011/2012 World Cup season was less successful than the pre-winter, her best result was a 16th place in the Super-G of Cortina d'Ampezzo.

On June 23, 2012, Regina Mader married her fiancé Patrick Sterz. On the occasion of the wedding, she renounced a double name and has since started as Regina Sterz. On January 19, 2013 she achieved her best World Cup result to date with fifth place in the downhill from Cortina d'Ampezzo. She equalized this result five weeks later in the descent from Méribel . On March 19, 2015, Sterz announced her resignation. On January 1, 2016, Sterz became the mother of a daughter.
