research

Riphahn researches topics in the economics of education , social policy and labor market economics . She examines the effect of social policy reforms on workers, pensioners and immigrants. For example, she found that employee absenteeism increases after the end of the probationary period and that employees on fixed-term contracts work more overtime than employees on permanent contracts. It also examines how pension reforms affect the retirement age .

In several projects she deals with the influence of parental and child benefits on parents and children and maternal employment. For example, she examined the effect of the parental allowance introduced in 2006 and was able to show that the reform led to more mothers returning to work after one year than before.

Riphahn is also investigating intergenerational transmission, e.g. B. in the unemployment of fathers and sons or the educational path of immigrants and their children.
