The Maighelserrhein with the Romansh name Rein da Maighels is one of the main source rivers of the Rhine (see Rhine source ) and flows into the Rein da Curnera . The two rivers are dammed up there by the Lai da Curnera ; the power plants belong to the Vorderrhein power plants .

The Rein da Maighels rises on Piz Ravetsch from the Maighels Glacier ( Rhaeto-Romanic Glatscher da Maighels ) near the Graubünden border with the Canton of Ticino and Canton Uri. It flows first to the north through the Val Maighels , and then to the east through the cut called Val Platta between Piz Cavradi and Piz Piogn Crap into the Val Curnera . The original length was 4.5 kilometers.

Val Maighels on a map from 1906 ( Geographical Lexicon of Switzerland )

It can be assumed that the stream did not previously flow into the Val Curnera, but continued to flow straight to the north, where the Rein da Tuma drains the valley.
