Rein van Duijnhoven (born September 5, 1967 in Veghel ) is a former Dutch football player .
Career
After starting out at VV Nuenen , Van Duijnhoven came to MVV Maastricht in 1994 via TSV LONGA Tilburg and Helmond Sport . As a goalkeeper at MVV Maastricht, he scored a goal in the 1995/96 season, which was voted Goal of the Year in the Netherlands. However, it was not a goal kick, as is often assumed, but a free kick goal from over 80 meters.
In 1999 the goalkeeper moved to Germany for the then Bundesliga relegated VfL Bochum . At first he was only a substitute keeper behind Thomas Ernst , whom he ousted from the regular team during the 1999/2000 season, becoming a crowd favorite and cult figure of VfL Bochum. In the 2001/02 season he was voted the best second division goalkeeper. "RvD" was also one of VfL's top performers in the Bundesliga. He was celebrated by fans as the “world's best goalkeeper” when the team under Peter Neururer made it into the UEFA Cup for the second time in 2003/04 . This season, "RvD" played a key role in this success, as he stayed 13 home games and 911 minutes in his own stadium without conceding a goal. He holds the record to this day, for the longest time without conceding a goal in his own stadium.
In the summer of 2006, after VfL Bochum's direct promotion to the Bundesliga , his contract was not renewed, as his injuries increased from 2005 and the goalkeeper was only able to play a few games without complaints. "The Dutchman" ended his professional career at the age of 38 with the Ruhr Area Club. During his time at VfL Bochum, he played 119 Bundesliga games and 61 games in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Since the 2007/08 season he has been under contract as a goalkeeping coach at his ex-club, the Dutch second division team Helmond Sport ( Eerste Divisie ) .
Trivia
In 2007 he received the title of "Carnival Prince" at the Helmonder Carnival
