Reiner Saul (born June 20, 1938 in Lünen ) is a German civil engineer and known as a bridge building expert (especially cable-stayed bridges ).

biography

Saul studied at the TH Hannover with a diploma in 1963 and from 1964 to 1968 he worked for the construction company Hein, Lehmann AG in Düsseldorf, which among other things built the Düsseldorf Rhine bridges. From 1968 to 2003 he was with Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner (LAP), from 1971 as a senior engineer, from 1992 as managing partner and most recently as managing director. From 2004 he worked as a consultant at LAP.

Since 1968 he has been working with Wolfhardt Andrä on the development of suspension cables made from parallel wire bundles.

He played a major role in the construction of around a dozen large cable-stayed bridges in South America, where he gained experience during a four-year stay in Argentina in the early 1970s ( Zárazate-Brazo-Largo Bridge ). These included the first large bridge with double composite, a difficult foundation of pylons with 80 m long piles in poor subsoil with the risk of scour and the development of protection systems for the piers against ship collision, and the design of the first large stay cable bridges for large railway loads.

Since 1995 he has been a test engineer and EBA expert. From 1994 he was a lecturer for steel bridge construction at the University of Stuttgart.

In 2003 he received an honorary doctorate from the TH Braunschweig .

In his free time he hikes and sings in the Stuttgart oratorio choir (bass).

Projects

The cable-stayed bridges are among his bridge projects:

He provided advice on installation of the Dunaújváros Danube Bridge, which opened in 2007 , a steel arch bridge with a span of 308 m, which was installed on the bank and then floated in

In the beginning he worked at LAP on:
