Reinhard Haverkamp
Reinhard Haverkamp (* 1954 in Reichenbach , Rhineland-Palatinate) is a German- Norwegian visual artist who became known for his delicate metal and wood sculptures.
life and work
Haverkamp studied from 1973 to 1979 at the Kunstakademie Münster , where he was a master student of Paul Isenrath , and from 1979 to 1981 at the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin . In 1990 he was awarded the Darmstadt Secession Prize. Haverkamp lives and works in Berlin and, since 1995, in Bergen / Norway. In addition to a number of work and travel grants, he was awarded a Statens Garantiintekt in 2004 - a permanent state grant that equates to a basic income.
Haverkamp's works made of hardboard or plywood or squared timber , often held together with hinges, metal pins and ropes or wire ropes, are reminiscent of engineering constructions. They appeal to the eye on the level of the - often curved, mostly dynamic and sometimes house-high - form, but their appeal rather arises from curiosity to fathom the interaction of material and forces that hold the construction together as a whole. His metalwork is often kinetic .
"Just as nature unites the interplay of the most varied of influences into a functioning system in its creations, the sculptures are also the result of processes in which the balance of forces such as material tension, balance and gravity lead to coherent forms."
