Reinhard Koch (born October 31, 1861 in Dülken , † June 26, 1939 in Munich ) was a German admiral .

Life

Koch joined the Imperial Navy in 1878 as a member of the crew . He served on several torpedo boats and in 1899 was captain lieutenant in chief of the II. Torpedo boat flotilla with SMS D 5 as a guide boat. In 1900, as corvette captain, he was in charge of the I. Torpedo Boat Flotilla with SMS D 9 as the guide boat.

From July 1901 to February 1905 he served as a naval attaché in Rome , where he was also responsible for the Kingdom of Italy and Austria-Hungary . On January 27, 1905 he was promoted to sea captain.

After his return to Germany, Koch took over command of the training ship Stein in April 1905 , with which he undertook a trip to the North Sea , the North Sea and the Mediterranean . In April 1906 he became head of department in the Admiralty's staff and in September 1908 commander of the ship of the line Schlesien .

As a sea captain and commodore , Koch became second admiral of the reconnaissance ships on October 1, 1909, initially embarked on the great cruiser Roon . On January 27, 1910, he was promoted to Rear Admiral. In April 1910 he moved to the sister ship Yorck , on which he took part in the May 1910 exercises. During the autumn maneuvers of 1912 he was once again given the leadership of an association. He led the second reconnaissance association, consisting of the large cruisers Blücher (flagship), Friedrich Carl and Goeben and the small cruisers Danzig , Munich , Stuttgart and Augsburg .

In September 1912 Koch became the stage manager of the torpedo system and during this activity led the association of training and test ships several times, which from 1913 was called the training squadron. In addition to SMS Friedrich Carl as a flagship, it included several small cruisers and at times the older ships of the line Wittelsbach and Württemberg , the latter as a torpedo training ship, Avisos , torpedo boats and in 1913 the submarine flotilla. On November 25, 1913, Koch was promoted to Vice Admiral.

In July 1914, Koch changed to the post of stage manager of the education system, but after the outbreak of the First World War he took over the task of commander of the fortifications of Kiel in August . At the same time, he temporarily represented the chief of the Baltic Sea naval station . In September 1915 he became deputy chief of the admiralty's staff . On January 27, 1918 he was promoted to admiral, in August at the disposal of the Most High and in November 1918 available for disposition .
