Reinhard Freiherr von Schorlemer (born April 27, 1938 in Fürstenau ) is a German politician . For the CDU , Schorlemer was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from 1974 to 1980 . From 1980 to 2002 he was a directly elected member of the German Bundestag for the Osnabrück-Land constituency .

Early years

Reinhard Clemens Freiherr von Schorlemer comes from the old Westphalian noble family Schorlemer and is a son of Timo Clemens Freiherr von Schorlemer (1903–1962) and his wife Alice Elisabeth Countess von Merveldt Freiin zu Lembeck . He is married to Monika geb. Gatzen (* 1945), has five children and is a Roman Catholic denomination. He graduated from high school in 1955 and passed the agricultural assistant examination in 1958. After that he worked as a forestry team until 1959. From then until 1962 he studied at the higher technical school for social work. After the final exam, he was a trainee in the youth welfare office in Lingen from 1962. In 1955 he became a member of the CDU. From 1963 to 1965 Schorlemer was regional manager of the Junge Union in Hanover. From 1965 he worked as a farmer and forester in Schlichthorst and Lonne. Until 1973 he was politically active in the Junge Union at district, district, state and federal level.

From 1964 to 1972 Schorlemer was a member of the Engelern municipality council , where he was also mayor from 1968 to 1972. From 1968 to 1972 he was also a member of the district council and the district committee of the Bersenbrück district . After the district reform, Schorlemer worked in the same functions in the Osnabrück district . There he was also chairman of the district development, planning and environmental committee. From 1986 he was a member of the council of the joint municipality of Fürstenau , where he was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. From June 21, 1974, until his departure on November 4, 1980, he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament in its eighth and ninth electoral terms. Schorlemer moved into the German Bundestag in 1980, to which he had been directly elected in the Osnabrück-Land constituency. Instead, Hans-Jürgen Nagel moved up in the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Political activity

Schorlemer moved into the German Bundestag in 1980. He was a full member of the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Forests from 1980 to 1987 and again from February to December 1990. From December 1990 he was only an alternate member of this committee. To this end, he was represented on the Foreign Affairs Committee from February 1990 , and from 1998 also on the Joint Committee. In addition, Schorlemer was a deputy member of the Committee for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture in the last electoral term and was also a deputy member of the delegation of the Interparliamentary Group of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Schorlemer was President of the German Parliamentary Society from 1991 to 1998 .

Schorlemer was particularly involved in forestry associations. From 1988 to 1992 he was President of the German Forest Protection Association (SDW) and then for eight years until the end of 2000 he was Chairman of the Working Group of German Forest Owners Associations (AGDW). In his capacity as the highest representative of the German forest owners associations, he was a member of the Central Association of European Forest Owners (CEPF).

In addition, Schorlemer held the offices of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Forstabsatzfonds and the Deputy Chairman of the German Forestry Council . In the course of the debate about the certification of forest companies, he achieved that this was not required by law for private and corporate forests for the time being. In the course of the preparation of the world exhibition " Expo 2000 " he was chairman of the board of trustees of the wood industry and coordinated their participation in the exhibition.

Honors

For his services to the people and the state, Schorlemer was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
