Reinhold Rainer

Reinhold Rainer (born August 29, 1973 in Sterzing , South Tyrol ) is a former Italian luge rider .

Reinhold Rainer has been involved in luge sport since 1989 and has been part of the Italian national team since 1994. The forester lives in Ratschings and starts for the CS Forestale club . The highlights of the South Tyrolean’s career were the four Olympic Games. In 1998 in Nagano and in 2006 at the games in his Italian homeland in Turin , Rainer finished eighth. In 2002 in Salt Lake City , he was 12th. At the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver , he finished 21st.

Rainer took part in twelve world championships between 1995 and 2011. His best placings were a fifth place in 2011 in Cesana and two sixth places in 2004 in Nagano and 2007 in Igls . He took part in European championships six times between 1996 and 2006. In 2006 in Winterberg he just missed a medal in fourth place. In 2004 in Oberhof he was sixth.

The best placings in the overall World Cup were a third place in 2006/07 and a fifth place in 2009/10 . Once, in 2003 in Park City , Rainer won a world cup race. There is also a second (2006 in Igls) and two third places (2006 in Cesana and 2011 in Königssee ). In fourth place, he narrowly missed a place on the podium seven times. Rainer was Italian runner-up four times and third twice. On September 8, 2011, Rainer announced his retirement from racing.
