Reinhold Wirtz (born October 22, 1942 in Oberwürzbach ; † June 22, 2020 ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and union official .

Life

After primary school, Wirtz completed training as a handformer from 1956 to 1959 . He joined IG Metall as early as 1957 and was involved in the DGB youth team for ten years . In 1969 he attended the Saarland Academy for Work and Social Affairs . From 1971 to 1975 he was political secretary of IG Metall Völklingen , then its second authorized representative and from 2000 until his retirement in 2004, finally first authorized representative.

Reinhold Wirtz was a Roman Catholic, married and had two children. He lived in his birthplace Oberwürzbach until his death in June 2020.

Wirtz was a member of the SPD from 1961. From 1966 to 1989 he was chairman of the Oberwürzbach local association, and from 1978 he was also chairman of the St. Ingbert city ​​association . From 1981 to 1994 he was also a member of the SPD state executive.

From 1969 to 1978 he was a member of the municipality / local council of Oberwürzbach, and from 1979 to 2004 he was a member of the city council of St. Ingbert (1982-1997 as parliamentary group chairman). In 1994 he was elected to the Saarland state parliament, to which he belonged for two legislative periods until 2004.

Awards

In May 2009, Reinhold Wirtz was awarded the Saarland Order of Merit, the highest Saarland award by the state government.
