Riding arena (Winterthur)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The riding arena is a sports field and recreation area in the city of Winterthur in Switzerland . It serves the population of Töss as a local recreation area and is home to FC Töss .

location

The sports field surrounded by forest is at the foot of the Eschenberg near the Töss . The rear Chrebsbach flows directly past the riding arena. Although it is located close to the Töss district and used by its football club, the square already belongs to the city district , with which it is not connected - apart from forest paths.

The square cannot be reached directly by public transport. The closest bus station, the Töss swimming pool , is one and a half kilometers away and the way to the riding arena is via a footpath along the Töss. For individual traffic, the riding arena is currently still directly accessible via Reitplatzstrasse. However, the riding arena is also to become car-free in the near future and 150 parking spaces are planned on the other side of the Töss to replace it.

history

The riding arena was formerly the common area of the Winterthur barracks until it moved out of Winterthur. From 1906, FC Töss was the main user of the riding arena for the first time until 1921, before the club switched to the Nägelsee sports field. When this had to give way to the construction of the A1 , the club returned to the riding arena in 1964. In 1973 a separate cloakroom building was built for the association, which was supplemented by a second floor in 2007. Previously, the association used the distant Hörnli restaurant (not the Reitplatz restaurant ) to change clothes.

In 2002, beach volleyball fields were set up on the riding arena. From 2007 to 2014, the Winti Panthers beach football club played on the beach football field next to the volleyball fields before moving to a new place in Deutweg. In 2004 a disc golf course was laid out in the forest around the riding arena. In 2011, a 280-meter-long pump track was opened on a 1400 square meter facility at the riding arena , which was only the second in Switzerland when it was built. In addition to the normal pump track, a track for two- to five-year-old children was also realized as a world first.

In 2012, the city issued a design plan for the riding arena, which includes the riding arena as well as open meadow areas on the other side of the Töss, where new areas for events and parking spaces are planned to make the arena car-free. However, according to the canton, the disc golf course leading through the forest around the riding arena has to be canceled again and the construction of a Finnish track has not been approved by the canton. For this purpose, mountain bike trails leading from Eschenberg towards the riding arena are planned.

Events

Zoom Festival 2006

In addition to football games, the riding arena is also used annually as the start / finish of the Töss relay . In 2009 the Swiss Disc Golf Championship took place on the local disc golf course.

The riding arena was also used several times for cultural events. In 1994 the Out in the Green Festival (today Openair Frauenfeld) took place on the riding arena, from 2004 to 2007 the Zoom Festival was held on the riding arena. In 2018 the “FFF Verusse” techno festival took place on the site.
