The Openair Frauenfeld is the largest open air - music festival of German-speaking Switzerland and the biggest hip-hop festival in Europe . The event has been taking place since 1987. It used to be a rock and blues festival under the name Out in the Green Festival, which also once took place in Winterthur . The Open Air has been running under the name Openair Frauenfeld since 2007 and mostly presents hip-hop artists. The who-is-who of the international hip-hop scene are among the headliners in recent years. Eminem , Kanye West , Jay-Z , Drake , Snoop Dogg , 50 Cent , Kendrick Lamar , Pharrell Williams , OutKast , YG , ASAP Rocky and many more have already performed at Openair Frauenfeld.
venue
Usually the OpenAir takes place on the Allmend Frauenfeld . In 2007 the event took place on the lower Auenfeld, which is not far from the normal venue, as the Allmend was already occupied because of the Federal Gymnastics Festival 07. The 1994 edition, at that time still under the name “Out in the Green Festival”, took place at the riding arena in Winterthur .
2007
The sold out open air was the most successful hip-hop event of the Swiss festival summer with 100,000 visitors. Because 10,000 more visitors came than expected, the organizers had to create new campsites at short notice.
47 parked vehicles in a stubble field caught fire due to a heated catalyst.
2009
35 international and national bands appeared on the two stages, including 50 Cent , Ludacris and Kanye West , the German acts Deichkind , Sido and Samy Deluxe , plus eleven Swiss bands. With a slightly higher overall budget, sales remained the same as in the previous year. With a total of 142,000 day tickets, it was possible to equalize last year's visitor record. Divided into days, this means: 43,000 guests on Friday, 48,000 guests on Saturday and 50,000 guests on Sunday (sold out).
2015
The new "Skyline" stage received special attention. It has a width of 135 meters and a maximum height of 24 meters. The company responsible for this has also been manufacturing the Tomorrowland stages for years .
2017
After the Openair 2017 it became known that the US group Live Nation had taken over the majority of the shares in the organizer of the Openair Frauenfeld.
2020
On April 29, 2020, the organizing committee announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Openair 2020 would be postponed to the 2021 season.
