Stokeley Clevon Goulbourne (born April 18, 1996 in Fort Lauderdale , Florida ), better known by his stage name Ski Mask the Slump God, is an American rapper and songwriter from Broward County , Florida. He became known through his collaboration with XXXTentacion and his songs Catch Me Outside and Babywipe .

Life

Stokeley Clevon Goulbourne was born on April 18, 1996 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and is of Jamaican descent. In his childhood he grew up listening to the music of Busta Rhymes , Missy Elliott , Wu-Tang Clan , Lil Wayne and several other similar artists. Through his parents he also got a lot of the Jamaican musical culture. He started writing rap lyrics through his father, who was a rapper himself and was known under the name "Sin City". 2013 Goulbourne was in a juvenile detention center sent because it with marijuana worth about 10 US dollars was caught. There he met XXXTentacion, whereupon they developed a best friendship while in prison. After their release both collaborated on some songs.

Career

After his release, Goulbourne founded the rap group Very Rare and shortly afterwards released his first song Catch Me on the SoundCloud streaming platform . The songs The Blow with Lil Pump , Life Is Short , Like A Soccer Mom and Take A Step Back followed later . The first release, Catch Me Outside , used the instrumental from Missy Elliott's track She's a Bitch . Elliott gave a positive response on Twitter. In the course of his career, various collaborations with other artists came about, among others with Offset , Lil Yachty , ASAP Ferg , Lil Peep , Desiigner and Denzel Curry . All of them increased his awareness.

In May 2016 he released his first professional mixtape Drown-In-Designer . A year later, the first commercial mixtape YouWillRegret followed under Universal Music .

In 2018 he announced that "Very Rare" would become the label.

His debut album Stokeley was released on November 30, 2018 .

In December 2018, he confirmed that he and Juice Wrld were planning a mixtape called Evil Twins for 2019, but that never materialized.

Music genre

According to Goulbourne, his music has been influenced by various artists such as Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot and Timbaland . In an interview he said: "I listen to all kinds of music. Rap, rock, classical music, heavy metal ... sometimes Adele too ."

Private life

Goulbourne lives in New York . He suffers from heart disease, which is why he had to undergo an operation in March 2018.
