Smokepurpp (born May 15, 1997 in Chicago , Illinois ; real name Omar Pineiro ) is an American rapper and songwriter from Miami , Florida . He released his first music video It's Nothin with Lil Ominous on September 23, 2014. He became successful for the first time in 2016 through SoundCloud with his song Ski Mask and Audi , both of which went viral. Pineiro, who actually started producing beats, is one of the leading artists who gained fame in the mainstream through SoundCloud . His first commercial mixtape Deadstar was released on September 28, 2017 and debuted at number 42 in the US charts .

childhood

Pineiro was born on May 15, 1997 in Chicago, Illinois. He and his family moved to Miami, Florida when he was three years old. While he was in high school, he described himself as a calm person who surrounded himself with all sorts of groups of people. He took his first step in music as a producer, a hobby that he discovered out of boredom. Through the hobby he also had a strong influence on his friend Lil Pump , who was also not very well known at the time. The Beats didn't sell too well, but they got high views on the Internet, which is why Pineiro started rapping himself. He dropped out of school in his senior year of high school.

Career

Due to the non-appearing commercial success of selling the beats as a producer, he started a career as a rapper himself. Smokepurpp released his first song on SoundCloud in 2015, which he deleted a short time later due to poor quality. Soon after, he uploaded Live Off A Lick , his second song, along with the Florida rapper XXXTentacion . Due to his budding music career, he broke off his school career early.

In March 2017, he was signed to Interscope Records and Alamo Records. He subsequently announced on Twitter on March 9th that he would be releasing a debut mixtape. Five days later, he announced that the mixtape would be called Deadstar .

In May 2017, Smokepurpp released the single Audi . With over 54 million views on SoundCloud and over 105 million streams on Spotify , it was his greatest musical success to date. In September he announced that Deadstar will be released on September 22nd, with which he also released the single, Bless Yo Trap . The release was later postponed indefinitely and finally came out a week later on September 29th.

Deadstar includes features with Chief Keef , Juicy J, and Travis Scott . The mixtape debuted at number 42 in the US album charts. After the release he signed with Cactus Jack Records , the music label of Travis Scott, where he is no longer under contract.

On November 8, 2017, Smokepurpp was on the MTV show Total Request Live , where he announced a collaboration with producer Murda Beatz . The mixtape was called Bless Yo Trap (not to be confused with the single). After the announcement, the two singles 123 and Do Not Disturb were released. The latter together with Lil Yachty and Offset from the Migos . The mixtape Bless Yo Trap was released on April 13, 2018.
