The Scrucialists are a Swiss band from Basel . Along with Shabani & the Burnin 'Birds and Famara, it is one of the most famous reggae groups in Switzerland and was founded in 1997. The scrucialists' repertoire ranges from roots reggae to dancehall to live played dub .

Band history

Until 1999 the Scrucialists were also represented by a singer, Richard "Ites" White, who however returned to his homeland Barbados and gave his farewell concert there. But even then, as now, the band mostly served as a "backing band" for other solo artists. In 1999 Gut and Montini founded their own One Drop Studio in a warehouse in Muttenz , where the first singles were recorded and released. After the establishment of the in-house label One Drop Records (2000) and a renovation (2001), the studio is increasingly used by other artists and bands from the jazz and hip-hop scene.

The international breakthrough followed in 2002: The Scrucialists played at numerous festivals all over Europe with various solo artists and were on short tours with various artists such as General P , Lady Saw and Namusoke . In 2003 the band recorded an album with Ska and Dancehall star King Django and toured Europe with him for four weeks. Further appearances with the Swiss hip-hop formations TAFS and Brandhärd followed. In 2004 they performed at the local Imagine Festival in Basel.

In summer 2005 the Scrucialists supported Ward 21 as a background band at some festivals and Half Pint at some concerts. The band then traveled to Jamaica with their own riddims to record the vocals for their album All The Way , which was released in October 2005. In addition to Ward 21, you can also hear Turbulence , Luciano and Mykal Rose .
