RAF Camora (* 4. June 1984 in Vevey , Switzerland ; bourgeois Raphael Ragucci ) is an Austrian Dancehall - and hip-hop - a musician and producer . He is based in Berlin . It used to be called RAF 3.0 or Raf0Mic .

life and career

Early life and beginnings

Born in Vevey in the French-speaking part of Switzerland as the son of an Austrian from Villach and an Italian , Raphael Ragucci came to Vienna at the age of 6 and grew up there in the Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus district . That was when he rapped for the first time - exclusively in French - and produced his first music. He founded the Rapatoi crew with a friend of Polish descent . As a result, his name recognition in the Austrian hip-hop scene grew . After a year and a half, he separated from the crew.

At the age of 17 he came into contact with the rap crew French Connection . He later became part of the French-speaking group Assaut Mystik . Since he didn't see himself as a member of the German-speaking hip-hop scene, he decided to only rap in French.

Camora met rapper Joshi Mizu a short time later . They then teamed up with the rap group Balkan Express and appeared on the Splash . The group broke up, however, and in the end only Joshi Mizu, DJ Mezuian, Pimp Beats and RAF Camora were left. Together they founded the rap group Family Bizz , which became known for its life ball song and participation in the Ö3 Soundcheck and released the album Assaut Mystik & Balkan Express in 2005. Due to a lot of personnel changes, the group broke up again.

2006–2010: First productions and albums

2006 appeared together with Emirez the EP Scandal . RAF Camora produced the majority of the album and thus appeared as a producer for the first time.

At the same time, Chakuza's debut album City Cobra was released . RAF Camora produced several songs on this album and was featured as a guest on the theme song City Cobra . In 2008 Camora's first mixtape therapy was released before the album , which served to bridge the waiting time for his solo album. This was then published on November 13, 2009 under the title Next Stop Future . In March 2010 the collaboration album Artkore was released , which was created in collaboration with Nazar .

On December 24, 2010, RAF Camora released the mixtape Inedit 2003 - 2010 . The album contained unreleased songs that were written between 2003 and 2010. DJ Maxxx hosted through the album.

2011–2012: RAF 3.0

In January 2011 he announced that from now on he would only perform under the stage name RAF 3.0 . He put this into perspective in an interview in September 2011, in which he stated that in the future, once he has established the artist RAF 3.0 , he will definitely record an album again as RAF Camora . However, he refrained from releasing his next album under this stage name, as he is musically treading different paths on this album than the fans of RAF Camora would know and expect from him. The album RAF 3.0 , released in February 2012 on the Vienna record label Irievibrations Records , includes Sizzla , Konshens and Marteria . The album entered the German charts at number 7 .

On July 3, 2012, Raphael Ragucci announced on his official Facebook page that he would be releasing a new street album under the old name RAF Camora . This ensured a comeback for the rapper, who brought a continuation of his mixtape series onto the market with Therapy after Death . The album was available in a limited edition and exclusively through the hip-hop mail order company Mzee.com and was released on September 7, 2012 and later as an iTunes re-release. On September 9th, RAF Camora released the instrumental version of the album ( INEDIT-TNDT ) for free over the Internet, which contains four exclusive songs from the original mixtape.

2013: Founding of the label: Indipendenza

In January 2013 Ragucci announced the founding of his own label, Indipendenza . On July 5, 2013, Hoch 2, the rapper's second studio album, was released under the name RAF 3.0, with which the artist was able to reach number 1 in Germany for the first time . The RAF then worked with Chakuza on the collaboration album Zodiak , which was released on March 14, 2014. In May 2014 he received an Amadeus Award in the “HipHop / R'n'B” category.

In 2015 RAF Camora took an artistic break and embarked on a musical re-discovery phase. He dealt intensively with the change in the music industry, the current zeitgeist and future projects.

2016–2019: collaboration with Bonez MC and breakthrough

On April 15, 2016 RAF Camora's fourth solo album Ghøst was released, which entered the German charts at number 3. In September of the same year, the collab album Palmen aus Plastik followed with Bonez MC , which is by far the most successful RAF Camora release to date. It reached the top of the German charts and received a platinum record in Germany for more than 200,000 units sold and platinum in Austria (over 15,000 sales). Furthermore, among other things, the single Without My Team achieved gold in Germany and Austria (over 7,500 sales) for more than 1,000,000 copies sold in 2018, while the plastic single Palmen was awarded double platinum for more than 800,000 sales in Germany.

In 2016, RAF Camora founded an artist agency together with his long-term business partner Ronny Boldt and officially took over the management of Bonez MC in September 2016.

On August 25, 2017, RAF Camora's fifth solo album Anthracite was released. On November 13th it was announced that Anthracite will have a successor. On December 15, 2017, the free album Anthrazit RR was released on Spotify and YouTube . The albums reached the top position in the album charts in Germany and Austria. A few days earlier, RAF Camora was awarded the 1Live crown for Best HipHop Act National .

RAF Camora (2019)

In addition, RAF Camora was nominated for the Echo in 2014 in the hip-hop / urban international category and in 2017 (together with Bonez MC ) and 2018 in the hip-hop / urban national category. He also received an Amadeus Austrian Music Award in 2018 .

Subsequently, RAF Camora worked again with Bonez MC in its newly built anthracite studio and published the second collaboration album Palmen aus Plastik 2 on October 5, 2018.

The album had one of the most successful launches of the year, based on physical sales, downloads, and streaming. The album charted on 1 in Germany and Austria and has already reached gold status in both countries. With over 80 million streams in the first week, Palmen aus Plastik 2 holds the streaming record in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The first three positions in the single charts in Germany were occupied by Bonez MC & RAF Camora. To date, this success is unique in the history of the official German charts. So far no artist has had more songs in the top 10 at the same time. The two rappers placed 8 songs. They were the first to place a total of 13 songs in the top 20. In the Ö3 Austria Top 40 , 13 tracks were simultaneously placed in the Top 15 and prompted a change in the counting method for the charts.

The Palmen aus Plastik 2 Tour followed in 2019 , one of the largest tours in German-speaking hip-hop history, which was repeated in the same year due to its success.

2019–2020: End of career with Zenit

On November 1, 2019, RAF Camora released his last album for the time being, Zenit . According to his own statement, in the future he wants to focus more on the production and promotion of newcomers and artists from his management agency and work harder on expanding his fashion lines Cørbo and Team Platin . In its box for the album Zenit , RAF Camora revealed that, as with the album Anthracite before , there will be an RR version of Zenit . Zenit RR was released on January 10, 2020. The two albums were able to reach the top position of the album charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and have already been awarded platinum in Austria.

His Zenit album tour, originally planned for autumn 2020, had to be postponed to May 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
