Palmen aus Plastik 2 is the second collaboration album by the German rapper Bonez MC and the Austrian rapper RAF Camora . It was released on October 5, 2018 via the Vertigo Berlin label, which belongs to the Universal Music Group, as a standard edition and as a box set , including a bonus EP and instrumentals.

In September 2016, Bonez MC and RAF Camora released their first joint album Palmen aus Plastik , which reached number 1 in the German charts and was a great success. As a result, Bonez MC announced the successor Palmen aus Plastik 2 in January 2017 . In April 2018, Bonez MC confirmed the release of the album for late summer 2018. In addition to the three singles, two snippets were also released before the album was released.

The album title refers to the metal palm trees in Hamburg's Antonipark .

The beats for the album were provided by RAF Camora (7) and the music producers The Cratez (13), X-plosive (1), Jugglerz (2), Gee Futuristic (1), Beataura (3), KitschKrieg (1), Jr Blender (1) and Syrix (1) are produced. The Cratez, RAF Camora, X-plosive, Syrix and also Lucry , Hamudi and AriBeatz were involved in the production of the bonus EP .

Cover design

The album cover shows Bonez MC and RAF Camora , who are in front of the same staircase on the beach in Barcelona as on the cover of the predecessor plastic palm trees . Bonez MC sits on his Yamaha 125cc scooter and RAF Camora crouches in the foreground. Palm trees can be seen on the left and right of the picture. On the walls of the stairs are the graffiti lettering Best Life in red and Frost . 187 in white.

Guest Posts

In addition to the protagonists, other artists are represented on four or eight songs on the album. The rapper Gzuz has a guest appearance in the number one hit Kokain , while the dancehall musician Trettmann can be heard on song 100 . More criminal is a collaboration with the rapper Kontra K and the rapper Hanybal appears on the company . There are also four other collaborations on the bonus XP. Thus, on last night , the 187 street gang -members LX , Maxwell and Sa4 represented. Maxwell also supports RAF Camora and Bonez MC on the track Not for the Others , while Sa4 has another guest post on Halleluja . The Jamaican dancehall artist Javada is also involved in the song Ova n 'Ova (Sex) .

Chart successes and singles

Palmen aus Plastik 2 entered the German album charts on October 12, 2018, with the most successful start of the year . In total, it was able to stay in the top 100 for 59 weeks, six of which were in the top 10. The album was also able to position itself at the top of the charts in Austria and Switzerland. The Vulcano EP , only included in the box set for the album, reached number 41 in the album charts through streaming .

The album also reached the top position in the German hip-hop charts , where it lasted nine weeks and set a new record. Previously, Cro held the record with MTV Unplugged (5 weeks).

In the German annual charts for 2018, Palmen aus Plastik took 2nd place, in Austria and Switzerland 5th and 21st respectively. In the 2019 annual charts, the album was also ranked 34th in Germany, 10th in Austria and 46th in Switzerland .

The first single 500 PS was released on August 3, 2018, first rose to number 3 in the German charts and later reached the top position. It was ranked 16th in the 2018 annual charts and 17th in 2019. On August 24, the second release of risk followed , which came in second on the charts. In the 2018 annual charts, the song was at number 81. With the third single Kokain , which was released on September 14, 2018, the two rappers reached the top of the German single charts for the first time . The single was also able to reach number 1 in the charts in Austria. In the German annual charts for 2018, the single came in 52nd.

Music videos were also released for all releases .

In the week of the album release, the rappers and the producer duo The Cratez set several records in the German charts. With the songs 500 PS , Kokain and Number suppressed, they managed to occupy the top 3 of the single charts at the same time. In addition, eight songs were simultaneously placed in the top 10 and 13 pieces in the top 20. In addition to the 15 titles of the standard edition, the track Last Night from the Vulcano EP also reached the top 100. At the same time, the rappers made 57 million streams of the Songs on the album set another record in the first week.

The single 500 PS received a platinum record for more than 400,000 units sold in Germany in 2019 . In November 2018, the singles 500 PS were awarded platinum (30,000 sales) and Risk and Cocaine gold (both 15,000 sales) in Austria.

The album received four out of a possible five points on laut.de. The reviewer Robin Schmidt thinks that it has "an almost dance hall-heavy sound image than its predecessor". The productions could “all be heard and there will certainly be fireworks again live or in the club.” Both rappers would “again form a good symbiosis”; they delivered a “wealth of entertaining hits” and “put their stamp on German-language dancehall again.” However, the album lacked “moments of surprise” and profound lyrics. In the list of the best hip-hop albums of 2018 by laut.de , Palmen aus Plastik took second place 21.

Mathis Raabe from Juice magazine rated plastic palm trees 2 with 4.5 out of a possible six crowns. He writes that “in terms of content everything is the same on the sequel to the milestone” palm trees made of plastic , but the production would sound “softened”. The song Ova n 'Ova with Javada , which is only included on the bonus EP, “most closely resembles the roughness of many dancehall riddims.” Everything is “no longer new, but somehow still very entertaining - and better than most of the German-speaking ones Afrotrap.
