Plastic palm trees received consistently positive reviews:
Jan Ehrhardt from the website laut.de rated plastic palm trees with four out of a possible five points. The album delivers “finally good German-speaking dancehall”. Both artists “shoot in the usual way over precisely produced beats” and they manage “with large parts of the record something steeped in history: German-speaking artists have never flowed so well on dancehall riddims. The productions on a German-language dancehall record have never been so on point ”. The guest contributions by Tommy Lee Sparta, Gzuz, Maxwell, Hanybal, D-Flame and Trettmann are also praised.
Franz Xaver Mauerer from rappers.in gave plastic palms four out of a possible six points. The album is "well thought out and coherent" and delivers on a "constant level".

It sends the listener "on a journey to reinvent German dancehall: catchy hooks meet dark sounds, unbelievably strong production, gangster attitude on point, holiday flair, hurricanes and floodlit sun".
