René König (born March 4, 1972 ) is a former German biathlete .

René König was one of the best German biathletes in the first half of the 1990s. He achieved his greatest successes at the European level. At the Junior World Championships in Canmore in 1992 , he won the gold medal in the sprint ahead of Franck Perrot and Ville Raikkonen as well as with Marco Morgenstern , Carsten Heymann and Peter Sendel . In the Biathlon European Cup , König won the overall ranking of the competition in the 1992/93 season, ahead of André Sehmisch and Reinhard Neuner . The following season he finished third behind René Cattarinussi and Holger Schönthier in the overall standings. With Lars Kreuzer , Markus Quappig and Marco Morgenstern, he won the silver medal in the relay race at the 1995 European Biathlon Championships in Le Grand-Bornand behind the representation from Belarus.
