Renate Ahrens

Renate Ahrens (born June 6, 1955 in Herford ) is a German writer .

Life

Renate Ahrens was born in Herford in 1955, studied English and Romance languages and worked as a teacher for a few years before starting to work as a freelance writer in 1986. She writes novels, children's books and plays. After living in France, South Africa, Italy and Ireland, she now lives with her husband in Hamburg . Renate Ahrens is a member of the PEN Center for German-Speaking Authors Abroad .

  • 2000: Sponsorship award from Club Bertelsmann for the novel Der Wintergarten
  • 2001: The children's novel Afspraak op de kattentrap (Cat Leader No. 3) was awarded first prize in the category of books for ten to twelve year olds by the Limbourg Children's Jury (Belgium).
  • 2013: Geertje Potash Suhr Prize for the short story in three months eighteen (awarded by the Society for Contemporary American Literature in German - SCLAG)
  • 2017: The novel Everything that followed is named NDR Book of the Month June 2017.
