Renate Dannhauer (* 11 August 1939 in Oberwiesenthal as Renate Borges ) is a former German cross-country skier .

Career

Renate Dannhauer, at that time still Renate Borges, won her first national gold medal in cross-country skiing over 10 km at the GDR ski championships in Klingenthal in 1958 , in 1961 in Oberhof and 1963 in Klingenthal, the Oberwiesenthaler was able to do the 10 km as well as the 5 km race and win the 3 x 5 km relay. At the GDR ski championships in Oberhof in 1964 , she won her eighth and final gold medal again with the 3 x 5 km relay.

Due to her strong performance, she was also active in international competitions. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1958 in Finland's Lahti she finished 10-kilometer 31 and last place. Two years later she took part in the Olympic Winter Games for the first time , so she started at the age of 20 at the 1960 Winter Games in Squaw Valley over 10 kilometers (16th place) and in the relay (5th place). Also four years later she started at the Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , where she just missed the bronze medal with the relay and finished 15th over 5 kilometers and 14th over 10 kilometers.

Personal

Between 1960 and 1961, Oberwiesenthaler married Rudolf Dannhauer , who was also a cross-country skier in the GDR team.
