Renate Rastätter (born September 16, 1947 in Karlsruhe ) was a member of the Greens in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg from April 1996 to April 2011 . She represented the constituency of Karlsruhe II .

Life

From 1953 to 1963 Renate Rastätter first attended elementary school for eight years and then attended the commercial school in Karlsruhe-Durlach for two years. After that she held various professional activities until 1971 - among other things she worked for two years in banking and industry -; then she graduated from Cambridge with a “Proficiency in English”. From 1971 to 1975 she studied at the PH Karlsruhe for teaching at primary and secondary schools with postgraduate studies for teaching at secondary schools; at the same time she worked as a translator. Afterwards she was a teacher at the Königsbach-Stein secondary school until 1996 . During this time she also acted as a liaison and trust teacher.

Political activity

Her interest in politics began during her student days. Her interest gradually turned to environmental protection . Renate Rastätter was one of the founding members of the Greens in January 1980. From 1980 to 1983 she was a member of the district board of the Greens in Karlsruhe. She was a candidate in the 1983 federal election . From 1984 onwards she was a member of the municipal council of the city of Karlsruhe for ten years , seven years of which as the parliamentary group leader of the Green municipal council. As a member of the state parliament , she was thematically responsible for schools and animal welfare and was a member of the school committee.

Since 2014 she has been a member of the City Council of Karlsruhe again.

She is also a member of the Education and Science Union (GEW), the Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND), in several sponsoring associations and animal welfare organizations.

Honor

In 2016 Renate Rastätter was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg .
