Renato Maranta

Renato Maranta (born July 14, 1920 in Poschiavo , † October 18, 1954 in Chur ) was a Swiss composer and writer .

Career and impact

Renato Maranta was the son of the Poschiavo organist Riccardo Maranta , who had studied church music in Regensburg . Renato Maranta studied theology and music at the Conservatory in Zurich in Rome , Chur and Lugano . There he worked as a church musician and was organist in the parish Maria Lourdes in Zurich- Seebach and in the parish St. Martin in Zurich- Fluntern until 1943 . He then worked as an organist in the parish Herz Jesu in Zurich- Wiedikon .

His musical oeuvre includes church music, including a soldiers' mass , as well as folk chants for the Italian valleys of Graubünden, which were to become part of his Canzoniere del Grigione Italiano ("Collection of Italian songs from Bündens "). His musical and literary work was entirely dedicated to the spiritual defense of the country and his works were often broadcast by Radio Moteceneri and Radio Beromünster . His ecclesiastical and popular musical works are still valued and performed in the valleys of Graubünden to this day.
